Humans and other cats can be infected by a cat with an infection. Cats groom their wounds, and grooming an infected wound would place some of those bacteria on their tongues. So if the infected cat licked a cut or scratch on you or licked your lips, you could easily end up with an infection. I would never let a cat lick my face or any cuts/scratches I might have, whether the cat had an infection or not. And, soon after touching an infected cat, wash your hands very well, especially if you are going to eat (and don\\\’t want to eat \\\’those\\\’ bacteria). Another cat (especially if it also had scratches) could be infected if it groomed, or was groomed by, the infected cat.

Not all bacterial infections are contagious. For example: Bacterial infections, like gingivitis and periodontal disease are not communicable. Although cats can carry diseases and pass them to people, you are not likely to get sick from touching or owning a cat. By following simple health tips, you can be even safe-against cat-related diseases.
Some cat-related diseases that make people sick are common, such as cat scratch disease (or cat scratch fever), and others such as plague are rare. Toxoplasmosis is a disease that can come from cats, but people are more likely to get it from eating raw meat or from gardening. Cats can also carry rabies, a deadly viral disease.
Cat lyme disease is caused by a bacterial infection spread by ticks. Humans can only catch the disease from ticks, not from contact with their pets.
