A kitten I found in my barn this afternoon has pink around its eyes. If it could open its eyes, I would not be worried. Should I bring it to the vet?

Absolutely! There are several things that can be causing this from allergies to diseases which can cause permanent blindness or loss of the eye. It\\\’s ALWAYS better to be safe than sorry.

Bring it to the vet just to make sure all is well since it came from the disease-infested outdoors but I wouldn\\\’t be too worried about the eyes. Some cats have pink around the eyes just because of their coloration. Also, if this kitten is small like a newborn it may not be ready to open it\\\’s eyes yet. Unlike humans, who can open their eyes shorly after birth, cats can\\\’t see or even hear when they are born, and don\\\’t have the amazing sence of sound we know our felines for until 16 weeks after birth.
Cats of some breeds will open their eyes at 5-8 days of age. Others take up to two weeks finally see the world around them. If your kitten looks like its more then two weeks old then seeking a veteranairian is far more ugent.

My apologese for the terrible spelling and grammar I have today. I am very tired and my fingers feel numb from not using them so much.

Yeah, its always better to be safe than sorry, so you should bring it to the vet.

Here is some information I found off the internet:

What is conjunctivitis (pink eye) in cats?

Conjunctivitis (commonly called pink eye) is an inflammation of tissues around the eyes. It is a common condition in cats, dogs and even humans.

Cat pink eye can has several possible causes:

Infections
External irritants (including eyelashes)
Trauma (e.g. injury from a cat fight)
If your cat has pink eye, you may notice a discharge oozing from her eyes. The surrounding tissues may become swollen, inflamed and pink. Your might show obvious discomfort, but not necessarily.

Common symptoms of feline pink eye

Excessive tears
Apparent itchiness or pain in eyes
Red or pink in the cat\\\’s eyes
Possibly a pus-filled discharge
Apparent sensitivity to bright lights
Cat pink eye (conjunctivitis) may be contagious, so try to keep your cat away from other cats until the pink eye is completely gone. Left untreated, cat pink eye can become a serious problem. In rare cases, it can even lead to blindness. However, there is no cause for alarm: feline pink eye is easily treated.

Anyways, good luck on treating your cat with pink eye! :)

If the pink is around the eye and not in the eye or on the third eyelid then it should be fine, but you should bring them to the vet regardless. when finding a kitten even if there is not an obvious problem its always the right thing to bring them to the vet.
