Is the new cat a kitten or an adult because adult cats will be nicer to a kitten and will probally fight with a new adult cat.

Are they fixed? if they’re not then theres your answer. They will try to gain dominance over each other. And if they are fixed then u just need to give them some time to get to know each other.

I have two cats and I know two reasons why your cats might be fighting. 1) They may just be playing. Even if they hiss and growl at each other, they may still be playing. 2) The older cat may feel threatened because the new cat is on it’s territory. The new cat is trying to gain territory as well.

cats are ver y independent, they are not like dogs who care a lot about attention.

Moving in any cat with such an old kitty is not going to make for fast friends. Cats are very territorial. Your old cat is very stressed & letting you & the newcomer know it. Give them time, they might become friends? At the very least, they should learn to tolerate each other.
