My very longhaired cat likes to lay on top of things she shouldn’t be laying on top of!
My cat lays on top of things such as books, clothes or electronics. Sometimes she gets on top of tables or other furniture she’s not supposed to be on. Should we ignore it and wait for her to get off, take whatever it is that she’s on top of from underneath her or what? What should we do? Her hair clings to everything.

It\\\’s totally up to you. If you\\\’re ok with her lying on these things, let her lie there. If you\\\’re not, you need to let her know that\\\’s unacceptable behavior or she likely won\\\’t stop on her own.
As far as books and clothes go, pick them up & keep them somewhere she can\\\’t lie on them. A pile of clothes makes a comfy resting spot for a cat (especially CLEAN clothes… they always seem to know, those little boogers…), and books and electronics are cool and smooth to lie on. I don\\\’t scold my cats for lying on anything that I\\\’ve left lying out or left within their reach. It\\\’s my responsibility to put that stuff away, so I can\\\’t fault my cats for being cats.
However, as far as jumping onto furniture that you don\\\’t want her on, you\\\’ll have to teach her not to do that. You can try a loud, \\\”NO!\\\” or a clap of the hands, shaking a canister of dried beans, or even the squirt bottle approach (but remember, she CANNOT see you doing it!!!), just make sure with any of those that the scolding happens when she is IN THE ACT. If she\\\’s already off the furniture, it won\\\’t have any impact on that behavior. If you\\\’re keeping her off all of the furniture, please make sure she has a comfy bed of her own to lie in, too.

Take her off if she starts hissing at you give her a toy to play with instead.

As for furniture, you can make it seem uncomfortable by putting tape (sticky side up) on top of it, because cats hate to have tape on them. Or you can but a bed for it and making it as comfortable as possible by putting it near something warm, putting an old tee shirt In it so that it feels like a pile of clothes, and stuff like that so it favors the bed instead of other things, but I reccomend tape instead. Whatever you do, remember not to EVER hit your cat. It may not like you for the rest of it\\\’s life. Good luck!

I agree with ziggy_bo43. The best method that I have found with my cats is clapping.
I am down to one cat as of now, but she is fully trained by the hand clapping method.
She now knows that she is not allowed to lay on the furniture unless I have placed a blanket on top of it, and I have trained her to go to her bedroom with 2 claps in succession.
This is a wonderful tool if your cat responds to it.

If you go to Petco or a pet supplies store buy a spray called Bitter Apple and spray it on the objects. it will not damage things but animals hate it.

My cat lies on new things a lot, too, and so I let her. It might be that she likes the warmth, or just because she\\\’s a cat! If you don\\\’t want her to lie on something, then gently push her off. (if it is something dangerous then be more pushy.)

if you want to keep your kitty off of of something i have heard covering it in tinfoil works (although my cats try to eat the stuff) well for most people. Also if you do not have a cat tree/condo they help give you kitty an area that is designated for them that is also high up, and should keep kitty off the table.

Put tin foil on your tables, cats hate the sound, she will jump rite off.. and also you can put empty soda cans and put them hanging so the cat bumps them and runs away, also a plate of maple syrup put on the table, cats HATE sticky things. ![]()

Whenever she gets on something you need to tell her NO (Or some other short command, kinda like when you train a puppy. Keep it simple.) It might take awhile if she\\\’s done it alot in the past but she should learn.

Do what we do- We have a filled up spray bottle with water ( I don\\\’t recommend using one that had Windex in it or something like that ) and we spray Batty (my cat) with it every time he goes on something he\\\’s not supposed to. When Batty sees the spray bottle, he runs away, so we don\\\’t have to use at all any more.

Yeah! I do that too! With bad behavior and stuff like that, I spray my cat with a mini spray bottle!

yesterday i went to HEB and they had this spay package type thing that was called stay off and it was to keep you cat away from furniture you dont want her touching, so i would use that or a regular spray bottle with water.

just say, in a strict voice, NO!! or make him/her a nice, comfy bed that\\\’s warm and that has a comforting scent (like, catnip, or you). your cat probably likes sleeping on electronics because they are warm, my cat sleeps on my moms laptop when it\\\’s on. =) ![]()

1: you should brush your cat at least 1 per day. 2: Spray him/her with water every time it does it.

dont let her get on electronics it could be very dangerous but either than that i guess its ok

The clapping/spray bottle methods worked best for me- and maybe if you give her more places that are only hers to lie on, she\\\’ll forget about the furniture and electronics. ![]()

I let my Scremer sleep on top of my CD player. I would play it while I slept to help me sleep - she didn\\\’t seem to mind the music. The only place I tried to keep her away from was under my dresser ( it had a broken leg) and behind the TV console. Two places where she wanted to go to have her kittens. Both dangerous places for babies (cat or human).
