how do i litter box train my 11 month old cat?

5 Answers  |  Asked By: kentuckylady   1

my cat, tiger, is 11 months old and I have NEVER been able to get her to go to a litter box. I’ve tried the locking her in a room with food, water and her litter box but that only had her doing her business on the floor. We have tried sand, dirt, litter, she can not stand the feel of anything on her paws. I am at my wits end, we love her so much and I really really don’t want to have to get rid of her. We have tried to make her an outside cat but she goes straight for the road, so i can’t let her out either. HELP PLEASE!

maybe if u see her goin on the floor u can get her 2 da litter box quickly before she finishes her business if she goes to the exact place she was before put something on the litter box that attracts her when u put her on the litter box hold the thing in front of her so she does not go on it if she does not like the feeling of sand, dirt, litter maybe she has some kind of irritation on her paws HOPE I HELPED!!!!!!!!!! :) :D

Have you tried a variety of litter materials? This would be a hassle to clean up, and you\\\’d have to replace it far more often than a good clumping litter, but maybe sand would be fine enough that she wouldn\\\’t mind the sensation on her paws.

How old was she when you got her? Have you consulted your vet to make sure that it isn\\\’t a medical issue? Cats eliminating outside of the litter box can be a sign of medical issues.

Sorry - I missed in your post that you HAVE tried sand. How about shredded paper?

Also, make sure you\\\’re doing a DEEP cleaning of any spot she eliminates. If she smells her residual urine, she\\\’ll think that\\\’s an acceptable place to continue urinating. Use something like Nature\\\’s Miracle: http://www.naturemakesitwork.com/catalog/prod_detail.php?id=62

I would also suggest investing in a blacklight to find possible urine residue that may be invisible to the human eye. I\\\’m in the market for one myself, as we\\\’re battling a urinary tract infection-laden kitty\\\’s accidents.

ty for your tips. I had tried catching her in the middle of doing her business but all that accomplished was her hiding when she goes. All she has ever known is carpet and just doesn\\\’t like the feel of anything else on her front paws, not that she\\\’s spoiled or anything lol. I do appreciate the time you took to answer me :) ty so much to you both
