Lots of pet owners have this problem, so a solution has been invented. Here is how to get you pet over its storm phobia:
First, go to a CD store or a pet store ad buy a CD of thunder crashing. This may be hard to find, but such tapes have been made for the cause. Bring it home and begin to play it really, really quietly so that you and your cat may barely hear it. Your cat probably wont react to this.
Instead of comforting your cat as if something is wrong, play with your cat as if nothing is happening. Give it toys, maybe even a couple treats, and make it feel comfortable. Now wait until tomorrow and play the CD clip again, except now play it a bit louder and repeat what you did the day before. To make it seem more like a storm you may even flicker the lights a bit. Continue to do this every day until you are playing the clip at a reasonable loudness. Next time there is a thunderstorm, your cat will not react to it, and may even think of it as a signal that its play time.
I hope this helps make your cat feel at home. Remember that he is just following his instincts like all animals do, so dont push him too hard.

Thanks, I heard about this in grade six from my science teacher, who told me that he saw this information on the weather network TV station that morning.

The loud noises probably frighten him; it\\\’s relatively common with cats and dogs. If it bothers him, I don\\\’t think you should be trying to drag him out in the open. You\\\’ll just be contributing to that fear. You might want to find his hiding spot and sit there with him, petting him & helping him feel secure.

My dog is afraid of thunder too. So, we noticed whenever there is a thunder storm she likes to lay on a certain spot in our house, so we put a blanket down for her to lay on whenever there is a thunderstorm. You should try that.
But if he goes in a different spot every time, I would just not bother him and try to comfort him. Also, if you try to get him out of his hiding spot, he might become even more scared of thunderstorms.
Try giving him treats and his favorite toys when he hides.
