How can I keep my cat’s from scratching the furniture?
My one cat has scratched a chair so much that the fabric actually came off. We have a scratching post, but she stop using it as often. Is there something I can put on the chair? What should I do???

Hi there, the best way to deter from scratching your furniture is: Purchase the spray called \\\”KEEP OFF\\\” from your local pet store.. This stuff works really well, make sure you spray heavenly in the damaged areas of your furniture to stop the cat from going there. Keep spraying it daily until the cat is out of the habit.. This worked for me and my cat. She now uses her scratch post and pad everyday, and I praise her heavenly for that! It takes patience, but believe me if I can do it, so can you! Good luck!!

A more permanent solution would be to have your cat de-clawed. It is rather drastic but you never have to worry about your furniture being scratched up. If you are adverse to putting your cat through that particular procedure, you can always attach plastic claws onto your cats claws and that will suppress his ability to scratch while remaining relatively comfortable for him.

declawing is horrible. i suggest you lock it in a room with a scratching post. if you let it out, watch the cat. if it starts to scratch correct it with a firm no. loud enough to scare it a little. every time it scratches the scratching post, give he or she treat right then and there. but just not milk. milk can hurt adult cats.

I agree meowpaw. Declawing should never be an option. I used to have to dedicate a piece of furniture to cat destruction as my remidy. A few years ago, I discovered the benifits of a good scratching post and my furniture is no longer being destroyed. I tried several versions but the best one I found was from TopCat Products. They are really nice people to deal with. I\’m on my 3rd replacement post and can highly recommend this product. . Here\’s a link to their website: http://www.topcatproducts.com
