No, Sadly, once a cat has been delcawed they can never regrow thier claws.

The surgery for declawing involves removing not jus ttha nail, but the entire first bone of the digit. It’s really an amputation and should be called that, not declawing.

It’s extreamly painful and cruel and I hope that anyone considering it takes the time to educate themselves about what it really is before subjecting thier cat to the removal of thier toes.

No. Kat is right. You remove the entire last bone on the cat’s “finger”. It would be like if someone opened your finger and pulled out the last bone on the end of it. Though cats only need their back claws to climb, this is cruel and you cat will never be able to defend itself when it goes outside. Some cats never entirely heal from this surgery and live for the rest of their life crippled, making it painful to even walk. Do not declaw your cat.

No they cant grow the claws back because declawing is an overall operation in which you fully remove the claw. Its like removing your thumb out og your hand.
Its very painful and cats have to survive this thing.
Hence many people advice not to declaw your cats.

YES and it is horrible…my cat is 13 and I adopted him already declawed when he was 10!!! We are going through this horror right now, his poor deformed paws have deformed nail growing from them, we are weighing out the effect of sugery now. It’s not infected and I don’t know if I want to subject him to that tourture again, I have 4 other cats and none of them are declawed! Trim thier nails once a week!!!

My 13 year old cat was declawed when she was 1 year old. I did not know then…nor was I advised by the vet…what this procedure entailed…by removing of the last joint of the finger of the paw. Over the next 3 years, my cat would begin to grow new deformed nails out of the tops of her toes. Different surgeons didn’t even help. Two surgeries later finally, things calm down. 10 years later, today, she has to get a dew claw dug out of the bone of her leg that had evidently invaded the bone quiet well over the past 10 years. Yes, it had been removed years ago but it grew back embedded in the muscle and bone. This was her fourth surgery. NEVER again. NEVER would I recommend it. Teach you cats to leave the furniture alone…Sticky Paws at Petsmart or Petco or even a squirt gun work wonders. Be tolerant…a cat just has to scratch. Just make sure you let them know where that is okay.

No…sadly. I think it’s cruel declawing a cat!! It’s like someone coming to your house and taking off the tops of your fingers. And you’re powerless.
