My cat likes to trip me?

8 Answers  |  Asked By: _wHiSkAs_   78

Sometimes when anybody in my family is just walking down the hall, my cat randomly takes off like a bullet and runs in front of us. He does that so quickly, I don’t even see him at first, and I sometimes trip or hit him with my foot on accident while walking. Is he trying to get attention or something?

Actually, they are just trying to walk with you. Kittens will do that to their mother also, and she will just kick them out of the way. I do not recommend that, since your foot is so much bigger than her foot. But you will have to remember to pay attention when walking around where the cat might be. They not only lead when they should be following, they sneak up behind you or to the side to see what you are doing, and turning it is very easy to stumble over them. When they are leading instead of following, I bring my foot up next to them and give them a push to the side (they may fly to the side a foot or so). That is a push, not a kick. Sometimes 2 or 3 of those, and they stay out of my way for 10 or 15 feet.

My cat used to do that, dash right under my feet. Then once I accidently stepped on her paw (I didn\\\’t mean to, just just literally ran right under me) now she doesn\\\’t do that anymore.

I think it\\\’s just kind of a game for them. Either that or your cat is plotting to kill you. (not really) :P

I agree with Jpete46.
Just make sure that you are pushing your cat out of the way with your foot and that you are not kicking it. Cats, due to their size can get injured much easier than you or I. So we always need to make sure that we are not kicking our cat since they can\\\’t verbally talk to let us know what is wrong.

I think its a way to get atention. My cat does that when she wants to play.It sounds like you have a very energetic cat.Play with it for 15 minutes a day or more and it will be less energetic.

This might be his way of playing or your starling him and his reaction is to run. See what he is doing before he bolts and if it seems like he is startled keep him in a different room. I think he is being startled and his reaction is to run crazy.
