I have had a dual cat household for 9 years now. Last month my 20 year old cat (Mowz) passed away, my 10 year old (Blackie) is still acting depressed. How long does depression last in cats and should I take her to the vet for meds or anything of that nature?

I\\\’m so sorry for your loss!
I thankfully haven\\\’t had to deal with this yet, but I do have a friend who went from a 4-cat household to a 2-cat household in about 3 months time. It\\\’s been almost a year since the two passed away (totally unrelated conditions - both pretty old - went within 3 months of one another), and her remaining cats still aren\\\’t quite the same. They were still acting depressed about the first cat\\\’s disappearance when the second one went, so who knows how long it might have taken them with just the one loss. Within a few months of the second cat\\\’s demise, they started to perk up a bit. But both are much more clingy and subdued than they had been before. I imagine this is the sort of thing that would vary from cat to cat.
Is she eating ok? If she\\\’s still eating ok, I\\\’d give her more time before turning to medication. You can also try those Feliway diffusers - they can supposedly help cats with stressful situations.
