Loud meowing

5 Answers  |  Asked By: MauiGirl   2

My cat has been meowing very loud the last couple days. She almost sounds like a crying baby. Is that a mating call and is she in heat?

It very well could be if she’s 4 months or older and not spayed. If this is the case, please make an appointment to get her spayed asap and be very careful that she doesn’t bolt through the door to get outside.

Thanks! We took her in a few months ago, but she's grown a lot since then. I have had cats when I was little, so I figured as much. We'll be sure to keep her inside until we can get her spayed on Friday. Thanks again.

Great to hear that she'll be spayed soon. So glad to hear that you're responsible with your cat! I do hope you will continue to keep her inside where she will be safe from all the dangers out there.

Is she older than four months? Then she can most certainly be in heat. Are there any unspayed males around? Then she is feeling heterosexuality and crying out to one (or more) of them to breed her. In this case, call your vet and have her spayed as soon as possible. Meanwhile, keep her inside and keep a close eye on her.

loud mewing can mean a number of things.
if your cat hasn’t been ‘fixed’, then yes, she is probably IN HEAT.
if your cat HAS been ‘fixed’, then she is probably looking for companionship, whether with YOU or with another cat ( she just might be lonely).

Before my cat was spayed, when she went into heat you would’ve thought the poor thing was dying. She sounded pitiful, all the howling and crying almost like she was in pain. I actually had a lil girl who was almost 3 at my house and when the cat started her howling, she went up to the cat and started to pet her on the head saying “kitty don’t cry it will be ok.’ It was so cute.
