Strange, but I was thinking of posting a similar question to yours.
My cat just disappeared, I have absolutely no idea WHY she went, she was an outdoor cat, which would make it much easier for her to run a way.
It could have been because she felt like she was going to die.
Anyway, sorry for my babble, but what I was getting around to saying was… IT IS TRUE, cats can leave your home when they think they are going to die, very TRUE, but was she an outdoor cat? I think she was then she may come back again, or she may never come back. Sorry, shame, I now know how it feels to have a lost cat. Shame! Meows!

She is 17 yrs old and was indoor/outdoor. She loved to be out in the back yard in the summer. She appeared to be healthy, ate and slept. Last week she left for about a day and a half so I kept her inside at night. I let her out in the morning before work on Wednesday and she was gone when I came home. The worse part is not knowing. Thank you for your reply.

i took care of a stray she would always come when called then she just left and i never saw her again and cats do go and hide to die sorry.
