My kitten is turning 4 months old tomorrow and i think she might already be going in heat. lately at nights she keeps meowing for long times, and her meows get really deep and long sometimes. I thought at first she wants attention or playtime, but after hours of that, when I try to go to sleep she starts again. I had to put her in another room so I could sleep at night. She is also aggressive and jumps/attacks everything lately.
so i’m not sure if she is going in heat this early, or just an attention whore that doesn’t want me to get any sleep!
ps- i was planning on getting her spayed anyway, just didn’t think i would need to this early. she’s still a baby!

She could be displaying both heat and the night crazies. It’s not uncommon to start both at the same time. 4 months is pretty common. And hormones make little kitties act crazy! She is old enough to be spayed so go ahead and make her an appt now since you had it on the to-do list. If she continues to do it then you will know it’s behavioral and you can begin to modify her behavior.

Female cats can go into heat and get pregnant as early as 4 months of age. They are usually in heat for 7 to 10 days at a time, and will go in and out of heat every week or two until they are mated or spayed. While in heat female cats may leak a clear liquid from their vaginal area, however they do not bleed or have a menstrual cycle. If your cat is bleeding or having any discharge other than clear it is an emergency and your cet needs to be seen by a vet asap. It is best to spay and neuter all cats before they reach sexual maturity (as early as 3 months to before 6 months) to avoid pregnancy, deadly pyometra (uterus infection), urine marking/ spraying, discomfort to the cat and the annoying behavioral issues that unfixed cats, both male and female, display.

thanks guys.. i have a stupid question. are these heat symptoms only during the night, or the whole day? Right now she seems fine, but at night when we’re all trying to go to sleep is when she becomes restless and meows non-stop. that’s why i’m thinking she just wants attention.

If a cat is in heat it will be 24 hours a day until it passes. If she's only doing this at night it is probably because she wants you to pay attention to her. She might just be scared actually at night when the house is dark and quiet. Maybe put a radio near her bed and turn it on at a low volume (it didn't work for my cat but this was suggested to my by someone who said it worked for theirs, so who knows). You might also want to get one of those little hooded cat beds so she will feel sheltered. Some cats, especially kittens, can be a bit clingy and get upset if you lock them out of the room you're in.

I think she’s probably just doing it to annoy you. Granted, 4 months is young for a cat to be going into heat but it’s not impossible, cats that young sometimes do, most go into heat at 5 - 10 months old.
Other signs your cat is in heat - If she carries her tail to one side, keeps her hindquarters elevated, does “treading” movements with her hind legs, and is super-affectionate around you. Sometimes cats will also be rolling on the floor a lot and pace around and generally seem restless.
My spayed cat does the same thing you are describing though, sits outside my bedroom at night and meows loudly until I get fed up and put her in the bathroom for the remainder of the night. I can’t let her in my bedroom because I that’s the only place I have to hide things I don’t want her to break or claw up (I live in a small apartment) and I can’t sleep if she’s jumping up and down off the bed because I’m a very light sleeper.
4 months isn’t too young to spay a cat if you think she’s already going into heat though. Shelters routinely spay or neuter kittens as young as 2 months old and research done on the subject as of yet has not turned up any long-term side effects in cats. I would go ahead and talk to your veterinarian about the subject and he may have an opinion on whether or not you can go ahead and spay your cat.

it sounds like she is in heat to me. my cat acted the very same way. 4 months is not soon for a cat to go into heat either. i would talk to the vet about spaying.
