Can you help me my husband’s cat is out of control what do I do?

4 Answers  |  Asked By: Sazy_Girl   2

What can I do? My husband rescued a kitten. The cat’s name is Steve. We think he is about 6 months old and we have had him for 3 months now. he loves to go up to your face in the middle of the night and tap you in the face for attention (with out scratches no claws out) even though gentle IT WAKES E UP even at 4 am. I have to put duck tape on the cabinet doors in kitchen, I will not result to baby locks for this out of control cat! NO. He bangs cabinets all over the house to get attention and sometime he will just hang on the cabinet door in front of you like he is doing pullups ? Get this one! There is a love seat near the hall entrance and the cat waits on the top of the sofa for someone to walk by in the middle of the night to use the bathroom just to swat them! It’s like he has figured out our routine at night and he is stocking us. He is crazy he is all over the house! When the phone rings he runs to the phone and knocks the handset off the stand before I can get to it and people hang up. After awhile of this jokestir it just isn’t funny anymore. My husband thinks it hilarious but I don’t. It is a constant battle of the house what do I do!

6 months old is still a kitten. Most cats don\\\’t settle down until they\\\’re over a year old. He probably won\\\’t always be quite so active as he ages.

Also, is this your only pet? He sounds bored more than anything else. You might want to consider getting another young cat he can play with, or spending some time playing with him yourself with toys or a laser pointer or something to wear him out so he doesn\\\’t have quite so much energy at night. I used to have run my cat around for a good hour before bed with the feather toy to get her to finally settle down some and I never leave the bedroom door open because I\\\’m a very light sleeper and her simply jumping up onto the bed wakes me.

Cats need exercise as much as a dog does but unless you have one of those few cats that will willingly walk on a harness and leash (you can try that too) you\\\’ll have to use a toy to get him to chase it around the house.

Barring that, just close the door to your bedroom. Or put the cat in another room by himself with his litterbox, water and food bowls and some toys and something to sleep on. He might meow a lot the first few nights and bang around but he\\\’ll eventually get used to it.

Hi, sounds like you have a youngster on your hands, not a naughty kitty! All good ideas here. Perhaps this will also help: I found a 3-month old kitty and brought him home. The older cats were not happy, neither were the finches! After a few shots with the ever-respected squirt bottle he\\\’s behaving. I do put him in a cage at night in my bedroom w/ food, water, litter, this is temporary. He goes in by himself at lights-out and sleeps like a log til morning. The only reason for this is he jumped on top of the finch cage in the middle of the night and scared the devil out of all of us. Next week: a trip to the vet for a neuter! Good luck…and they do grow up!

Even closing your door might not help. Steve is likely to learn to wait right outside the door and slip in as soon as anyone opens the door at night. Then you can spend a half hour trying to catch him to put him out again. Better to find him his own room for the night.
