At six months, assuming you haven’t had your cat neutered, it should be clear at to whether or not he’s a male or female. Lift his tail and look…cats at that age are no different from any other animal. Males have testicals, females do not.
If you’re still not sure, a vet can help you with the answer. If the cat is a male (and not all orange cats are male) and not yet neutered, he can display unusual behavior if a female in heat is in the area. The behavior, too, may be attributable to something else entirely.
Whether male or female, get to the vet and have your cat neutered. It’s a relatively painless procedure and will prevent unwanted kittens and trouble down the line. Your local humane society can usually offer these and other services for a very reasonable fee.
