i was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions on how to keep my cat from throwing up….im going to be out of town for two weeks and unfortunatly i have to leave me cats home (which im pretty concerned about) preston gets upset when i leave for more than a few days and he always throws up on my carpet and this will be the longest i have ever left him so im extremely worried about how he is going to respond to this….

You may want to consider keeping your cat confined to one area of the house while you are gone, preferably a non-carpeted room. Your cat sitter can come daily and let the cat out for a time and supervise to make sure he’s not about to mess on your carpet and play with him and give him some attention so he doesn’t feel like he’s been abandoned. You might want to try one of those silly “cat sitter” DVDs too, they’re kind of dumb but might provide enough of a distraction to keep your kitty’s mind off the fact that you’re not home.

Hopefully you have a good cat sitter who will be visiting daily. I am assuming the cats have been to the vet so any medical issues have been ruled out. I know some cats are just puke prone. You sitter can brush them and love them and play with them, which will help with anxiety about you being gone and reduce throwing up from that cause. Have you tried giving your cats petromult? that helps with hair balls and reduces the vomit caused from those… It’s a good idea to leave a sweater, robe or something else you’ve worn spread out on the bed so your catscan curl up to your scent while you are gone, which will also reduce anxiety. Be sure to let your pet sitter know about this tendancy they have to throw up. Also make sure your sitter will communicate with you daily to let you know how the cats are doing.

its just the one cat that does it and i know its not caused by hairballs just anxiety..he only does it when i leave for a few days...but my mom does visit daily when im gone to give them food and clean the boxes i just dont want to come home to a disgusting carpet..i mean its not bad cleaning 2 or 3 spots from being gone 3 days but i dont even want to imagine how much he will vomit during a 2 week period...thats a good idea about laying out clothes that i have worn..i will do that..thanks for the help!

As long as you’ve ruled out a medical reason for them throwing up there’s not much you can do to get them to stop. All my cats throw up on occasion my girl more than my boy. There’s nothing wrong with her,the vet said her stomach may just be a little more sensitive than the others. My mom has a long haired cat and she throws up hairballs which you definetly can’t stop from happening. I would definetly have someone drop by to check on the kitties, feed and play with them and be willing to clean up if your cat does vomit while ur gone. That’s what i do when i go out of town. When they’re here for day with just my mom,my 2 are up her butt for affection cuz they get so much from me….she says they drive her crazy. I think it’s sweet. At least i know they miss me.

Try to keep your cat in one room. One without a carpet. Ask a neighbor to check on him/her a lot so he/she doesn’t Feel that lonely.

As much as we'd all love to have our cats with us 24-7, it's not always possible. Like Amycat said, she has to leave them at home this time.

Depending on where she is going it may not be possible, especially if she is staying in a hotel (most don't allow pets) or in a home where there are people who are allergic or have not cat-proofed their home. There are a whole host of reasons this may not be possible and she needs advice on how to deal with the problem that exists.
