new baby

Im pregnant and i was wondering what is the best way to introduce my baby to my cats. I think my girl Cali might get really jealous. I hand raised her so she thinks i’m her mom. I think my boy Oliver will be more scared than jealous. Any ideas?

Back in the days when we only had 4 cats and one dog and I was pregnant with our daughter….I was told to bring home something that touched the baby (hat or blanket) for our dog and cats to sniff before we brought home the baby. We had one cat that was my baby. He didn’t really pay much attention to her until she started to walk. Then he would sit up on his back legs and whack her to knock her down…The other cats were fine with her. We had more problems with our German Shepherd and parrot. Our parrot was so jealous that she plucked her stomach bare!

I would let your cat check the baby out but under supervision.

Just make sure you give the same attention to your cat that you always have. That may be hard with a new baby but it’s important. More often than not the baby and cat become best friends.

Many cats love the warm cozy things we all use for babies. When your cat gets into one of them, just take them out. Don't scold them because then they may associate the baby with being in bad things (prior to baby arriving). I would keep my baby when it is sleeping somewhere where the cat cannot get to the baby. You are in for some work, because you will need to make sure both your cats get attention. I would probably take something the that has the baby's scent and place it in their bed too.

Well…. I agree with catsofmany. However, you should also SHOWER your cat with love more than often, so your cat doesn’t get jealous. This is the main reason cats dislike babies. When you shower the baby with love, do it in a closed room where the cat can’t see, so the cat won’t get jealous. And be sure, shower your cat with more love than usual.

If you finally want to introduce to your cat, make it be EXTREMELY supervised. Some of the first moments your cat and baby interact with each other are the most important moments in deciding if they will have a good or bad friendship. Slowly build up the cats trust with the baby, and they should become best friends for life!!

I think it will go ok. I can't possibly shower them with more love lol....they are spoiled! If you knew me you'd understand. My cats are like my kids. I even have them both tattooed on me,one on each calf. I have all ideas they're gonna be scared of her, they are such wusses.

Keep your catz away from your baby for a few dayz. Then let your catz in the room. It might help but just to be sure keep ur catz in reach.
