we saw a stray cat in the barn and it was my cats lovebud and it was kind of hissing at us so we did not enter the barn!!!!!

I wouldn’t call them necessarily aggressive, but rather protective and defensive. They’re just naturally protective of their territory and themselves.

Oh this is a very good question…
Same thing happens here. We have a big stray grey cat that my mother likes to call “scar face” because she can’t stand him. He pees all over are porch and can beat up kitties and my beagle. ANYWAYS, to the point. A couple of winter nights when we would go outside, big grey and Benny(my female 8 yr old kitty) would be snuggled up on my porch together on a bench! (sooo cute) Then that summer I think big grey might have been extra hungry and came right up to our door when my mother opened it! She pet him for a little while, then she had to shooo him away.
My point: about 3/4 weeks ago i was letting my beagle outside at about 8 pm. I happened to find Benny and big grey outside together. When grey saw my pup, he hissed and got all protective. My benny wacked him in face! Next day they were snuggled up again ![]()
