Mother cats are VERY protective so she would probably fight until one of them was to badly injured to continue. I recommend seperating them for example if they are outside cats let lucie out but not sissy and then after maybe 3 or 4 hours switch up ( call lucie in let sissy out.) Or if they are inside cats keep them in seperate rooms….. But if you can bear it the best possible thing you can do is give one of them away I know it would be terribly hard but if they can’t get along and you had to keep them confined to certain places they would probably be pretty miserable…. also sissy has kittens on the way and for all you know lucie might try to kill them!!!!!!! But it all depends on what you want to do……..Good luck :)

You can also make other changes to their environment that might help the situation.

1. Put out several litterboxes and food bowls in different locations, so there isn’t competition for resources. Select sites where the cats can see each other from a distance, so they won’t be able to be ambushed.

2. A cat tree, with different levels, has been shown to help reduce fighting even in shelters with cats who are stressed and unfamiliar with each other. The cats can select the levels they wish to sit on, and this may help in the complicated dominance relationships they develop.

3. Create defensible positions. Particularly with a cat that’s about to give birth, a small box with a small opening on one side for the cat to look out of provides a protected location that a can can use to avoid fights. A cat carrier with the front grate removed is perfect, but you can create your own with just a cardboard box. You might put a old towel that you have no use for, on the floof to make it more comfortable, and perhaps the mom-cat will choose that as her birthing location.

And of course, writing down when and where the fights occur can help you play detective, and determine if there are patterns that you can help avoid. For instance, if they fight with each other around 8 PM, give them a long play session at 7, and see if you can get them too tired to maintain the habit.

Good luck, and enjoy those cats!

She probably wouldn’t take the kittens away, because she would be unable to nurse them, unless she had been nursing kittens of her own less than a week ago.
