I have a 8 month old neutred male, domestic longhair. He was very hyper prior to neutering 3 months ago and has calmed down considerably. However, he continues to have a problem with biting, whether I am walking past him and he attacks my ankles, or if I am just leaning over him to do something like this morning, closing the blinds, and he nipped me on my upperarm. Other than that he is a wonderful companion, will sit on my lap and just snooze, very loveable, but this nipping/biting is becoming an issue. Any suggestions?

I really don’t have a lot of advice on this because I have an adult cat with a biting problem too. She bites for affection, not to hurt me, and I understand that, but I can’t seem to get her to stop it.
For example… She loves to be brushed; she also loves to bite the brush while she asks for more brushing. She loves to be petted; she also loves to bite the petting hand while she head butts it for more petting. She doesn’t attack me out of nowhere, but she does bite and she bites HARD. If she can get your finger in her mouth to “love chew” she will crunch the heck out of it with her back teeth and it hurts! OUCH!
We have only had her a few months, so we have a lot of work to do with her, but I’m finding that a good firm “NO!” and a finger shake in her face makes her stop for a second. That’s as far as I ever go with punishment for a cat.
I’m sorry I couldn’t be more help… I just wanted to share that I’m having and issue as well with no resolution. I hope that since your cat isn’t really an adult yet that he will grow out of it.

similar to baby people, baby cats about a few months old will bite because they’re teething- growing in their adult teeth and its hurting them. but its ok. you can train the cat not to bite you by telling him or trying to show him toys to bite on. as the cat gets older, his teeth won’t really be bothering him. my cats did the same thing and all young cats do, so its a normal process. showing the cat that you’re boss and letting him know that its bad to bite you, he’ll eventually stop. it will take some time but giving him things to bite, telling him and showing him not to will give him the hint not to bite.

My cat Chloe does the same thing!!People say to grab your cat by the scruff to calm it down(I don’t know how but it seems to work). But it seems cruel to go around grabbing you r cat by the scruff doesn’t it.Well I think it sounds cruel.Anyway a squirt bottle works, but when your cat bites you you would have to go and get it,then disipline him.But by this time the cat won’t know what it did wrong, biting you or walking away.Telling them”No!!’and showing them you are the boss is probably the best answer.
