You know, I\\\’ve had shelter or abandoned cats my whole life as well as at least one dog, and honestly cats are so independent and smart that it doesn\\\’t matter quite as much as what kind you get like a dog would. Cat\\\’s are pretty adaptable to different home situations, but if i had to suggest a family cat, go for the bigger sturdier kitten, also altered males are usually more laid back than females. I say go with a bigger male cat because the big ones usually turn out to be very laid back lap cat types.
Choose a kitty that likes being held by you, and purrs when you hold it. I always look for a snuggler.

I would guess an older (two yrs old or more), more relaxed and patient cat, that won\\\’t want to get in everyone\\\’s way at the busiest times of day. And because every cat has its own personality, I don\\\’t think any particular breed is as important as the personality of that cat. If you are adopting, perhaps they would let you try out the cat for a week before-hand.

That\\\’s what my house is like and my two bombays and my tabby cats love it here. I would recommend a bombay cat at your house would be happy there.
