Stray Gray

7 Answers  |  Asked By: mcroni   102

There is a stray cat that comes around our house and we call him Gray. He’s really nice and is about 2 or 3 years old. We feed him every day because he is scrawny. We feel really bad because he was abused. We Know that because he darted away when my dad was sweeping our porch with a broom… i feel the worst because he was in a bad fight and limps badly wherever he goes. We are moving soon and want him to come to our new house with us. Any suggestions?

If he\\\’s tame enough to handle you can catch him and bring him in as a pet. You will need to set up one room with a litter box, water dish, food dish, some toys and bed and keep him confined for a few days until he learns to use the litter box and gets used to being inside, and spend plenty of time with him.

You will also need to take him to the vet to be dewormed, vaccinated and neutered if you want to keep him as a pet. You can\\\’t really keep an unneutered cat indoors as they will spray urine to mark their territory, male or female it doesn\\\’t matter and the smell doesn\\\’t come out.

Moving with an outoor cat, especially one you haven\\\’t had long, is pretty impossible and the cat will just seek out its old territory as soon as you get to the new house and wander away. You will need to keep him inside exclusively at your new home at least for 3 - 6 months until he comes to regard it as his new territory if you want to keep him. It is safer to keep a cat inside anyway and if you\\\’re in a place with traffic, stray dogs, wild predators and other dangers you really don\\\’t want to let him out.

You will probably need to use a live trap. That is the easiest and safest (for the cat and for you) way to catch it. You can\\\’t really keep an unneutered cat outdoors either - it WILL disappear once in a while - for days or even weeks. Good luck.

try putting some food in a dog or cat carrier and see if he walk in and takes the food but if he lets you carry him you can just put him in there but the best thing for a cat that has been abused is a lot of other cat and human cotact good luck with your cat bye now
