7 of our cats were taken from a semi-feral mom cat that came “with” our house when we moved there 8 years ago. She was trapped and spayed and now lives happily as a farm cat as you could never tame her. One of her kittens ended up as my husbeloved one eyed shop cat as she was untameable as well. She’s a bit insane still to this day… but we spoil her anyway.
The next 6 kittens to arrive were taken in as fosters during Hurricane Katrina from our local humane society. I fell in love with each and everyone of them, so I adopted them all instead of rehoming them since homes were few and far between at that time. They stayed to long and wrapped themselves around my heart. :o)
The last… is a miricle all in herself and a story to behold. She was dumped 100 miles from home into a big city because a very mean man was mad at her. Her old mom called me and told me what her husband did and I started searching for her in that city everyday… 70 miles from me. For three weeks I searched daily for her… even hiring homeless people I met at the train tracks to hang up thousands of Lost cat flyers. By a miracle of the cat gods… someone found her, and recogognized her from one of the hundreds of email’s I had sent out with her picture in it. She was returned to me three weeks after being dumped. She was very sick and had pnemonia on top of asthma… but she is well now and in a loving forever home… never to face the fear of being unloved again.
And that is how we got 14 very spoiled rotten cats!

Two of our cats were pet shop cats. One was extremely small and unhealthy, so we bought her. The other was blind in one eye and no one would buy her, so we did. Two of them were found in a box by our Police Dept. on the side of the road in the middle of the night. Five of them were strays from our local shelter, one was going to be shot that weekend because the owner hated the poor thing and that’s how they were brought up…shoot cats that you want to get rid of. 20 are ferals we trapped. There are wonderful cats at the shelters and Human Societies. One of our shelter cats is a Persian and another is a Lynx Point Siamese.

My cat Earl Gray was born to a feral Mom. I fell in love with him the first time I picked him up. (The first time, he sassed me, flattened his little ears, and hissed, but he was smaller than my palm. He just thought he was scary.) Anyway, I managed to tame the whole litter and found them and Mama good homes.I brought Earl in as my house cat. He is fixed and completely spoiled now…and he is one of the most affectionate cats I’ve had the pleasure of loving. My last cat that passed away was from a shelter, and so are both of my dogs.
