I would suggest that adoption from a shelter is probably the best way to go as well. There will always be people who buy cats from breeders, so those cats will all find homes. But cats who find themselves lost and in a shelter may never get a home. They’re the ones who really need someone to come along and take them in.
My own two cats came from a society that rescues feral kittens off the streets, and then socializes them, and then adopts them out. That sort of society is another good place to find cats who would never have a good home otherwise. But feral cats require a lot of dedication and knowledge to take care of. So I would suggest trying to adopt ferals only after you’ve had experience raising other cats for a few years.
So in my view, a shelter is a very good way to rescue cats who might otherwise be euthanized.

I have 18 cats and they were all strays and i have rescued all of them.they all have there shots,deflead,dewormed and they are all spayed and neteured.and they were all tested for feline leukemia.so why do you think adoption or buying from a pet store is the best why to adopt a cat.it does not matter how you adopt a pet as long as you know that you can afford to take care of that animal and help save it then why not.and also i would like to say that i am not saying bring in a stray and don’t take care of it.what i am saying is if you see a stray take it to the vet to make sure it is ok to adopt and get it’s shot’s, dewormed and deflead and please get it spayed or neteured.PLEASE HELP TO RESCUE ANIMALS!!!!!!!

I adopted Earl Gray from a litter that was born on our property. I was also able to find homes for Mom and the rest of his siblings. With lots of love, they turned into very sweet cats. When you live in a rural area, there are alot of cats dropped off. It is very sad!!
