The TNR (trap/neuter/release) program in Texas started in 2007 on the campus of the University of North Texas when faculty members and staff realized the large number of hungry felines that prowled the grounds searching for food. Over 100 cats were trapped, neutered or spayed, and released. Students and staff feed the animals. The practice caught on, and other communities in the state began using the TNR method. Animals that are deemed adoptable are often surrendered to shelters in hopes of finding homes for the felines. Texas has a large number of adoption shelters and animal welfare groups, including no-kill facilities.

SPCA of Texas and Operation Kindness are good shelters. Also, North Texas Cat Rescue has cats at some Petsmarts too. Just do not use Texas Cares. We had a bad experience with them . They are disorganized - they gave our cat away to someone else and their volunteers could use some human ettiquette training as well!
