Ideally kittens should stay with their mother and siblings until twelve weeks of age. That allows enough time to learn bathroom etiquette, eating manners, hunting techniques and proper socialization and defensive skills by playing and interacting with other cats and animals. I have one cat who never learned how to play or even interact with other cats (assumes any approach by another cat is an attack) and has never even learned how to meow - it was raised by its mother as the only cat in the litter.

When kittens are born they normally are taken away from their mother at 8 weeks but I would take them at 12 weeks just to make sure

A kitten must be at least 6 weeks before you can take it away from it\\\’s mother.
