Well, I have a shorthaired cat, entirely white, I don’t think she’s afraid of cats. I’ve had other calico cats while we had a dog, and they got along fine. It also does depend on the genes of your cat. Some cats jsut don’t like dogs, and some do. You may want to check out what the kennel owner or whoever is owning the cat at that time to see what they think or that particular cat’s behavior.

Well, I would suggest buying a cat from a shelter because you would be saving a cat’s life by doing that. But if you really want a pure breed, unless you are going to brush and comb it every day I wouldn’t get a longhair. It also depends on your personality, if you want one that will cuddle a lot I would get a russian blue. If you want one that will get really close to you I would get a Siamese (though if you have other animals in the house and live with other people I wouldn’t get a Siamese because it might get jealous of the other person) I would google what kind of cat would be best for you.

A shelter would be the best place to get a cat. Bring your dog to the shelter, and see what cats can abide by the dog. There aren't really specific breeds that do well with dogs.

A Siamese I believe, would be a wonderful housecat (although all cats are different). They speak alot, yes, but they are loving, intelegint, and easy to care for since cats are clean animals. In addition the Siamese has short hair, and so grooming is not a problem any longer.

You cannot really say that one breed is afraid of a dog and that the other isn’t. They are all different, like I mentioned before. It is best that both dog and cat are kittens at first so that they get along because they know eachother over the years. Although I think it might also be that mainly the dog is the one that should be young, it all depends.

Yes, a persian takes alot of grooming care, but if you take care of it well, it will just be part of a normal rutine. Just imagine the fun you can have with a persian, and your not going to groom it 24 hours a day.
I say a Siamese because I own one, but every breed is different and has its gifts, and so the siamese, ofcourse, is not the only one who can complete all you wish for your cat to have.

The Exotic Shorthair is a breed that is basically a short-haired persian, so if you like the persian’s “smushy” face but don’t want to deal with the grooming responsibilities, this might be the breed you want.

That said, there are many non-pedigreed cats that are good loving companions and need a home, you should at least take a look at the cats in your local animal shelters, they may have a cat that is perfect for you.

Calico or white haired is just a coloration not a breed……..anyways i would recommend going to a shelter and looking around. Sometimes they have cats that have been around dogs and are used to them. They’ll usually tell you which cats are good with kids, dogs, other cats etc. Also a cat that grows up around dogs will take to it much better so you will probably have better luck getting a kitten. Just check out their temperment before you take them home. Find a kitten that is playful and outgoing,if they are very timid or shy they are more likely to be terrified of the dogs. You also have to introduce the kitten and dogs slowly by putting the kitten in a bedroom for a few days and just having short supervised visits with the dogs at first. Make sure that your dogs don’t jump or bite at the kitten. It will take a little training for the dogs too. You cant just allow them to jump, bite and be too hyper around the kitten. They need to learn how to act around the kitten just like the kitten will have to learn how to act around the dogs. It can be done it just takes time and patience. I’ve had cats and a black labrador living together and it did take some training, more so on the dog’s part but it can be done.

oh yeah,if you want a cat that is easier to care for don't get a long haired cat. A long haired cat, like a persian, should be brushed everyday to avoid mats which can be a pain especially if the cat is one of those that hates to be brushed. Just go to a shelter not a breeder. Cats in a shelter are just begging for a home and many don't ever find one and are put to sleep never finding a home just because tehy ran out of room...it's so sad. All my kitties are shelter cats and i couldn't ask for a better kitty than the ones i've got.
