I need help!

9 Answers  |  Asked By: catluvergirl95   860

My Mother and I went to a gas station yesterday and found, to our surprise, four adult cats and several baby kittens, a few weeks old. All of them are stray and are starving. Only the customers who visit the gas station feed them And its rare if anybody does. I was so sad for all of them. And I longed to help them. My Mother agreed to adopt one of the baby kittens and come everyday to feed them. I was happy I could adopt a kitten, and feed all the other ones everyday, but I have three other cats at home and I do not know how they will respond to a new kitten in the home. I need advice on how to properly care for the kitten, when to deworm it, what to feed it, and just general care for this small baby kitten. I am so very happy I can help these cats/ and kittens and I cannot wait to adopt one of the kittens! Help! Any advice?

So sad to hear that they were starving . But i am happy that you are helping them.

Some important things to take care of the new kitten.

Deworming
Kittens will need to be dewormed at least once and probably twice. The “worms” are typically roundworms or pin worms. They are passed to the kitten through the mother’s milk. Your vet can give your kitten a dose of medication such as Strongit to kill these parasites when the kitten is 6 weeks old or so. This should be followed 2 weeks later either by a second dose of medication or a fecal test to insure that all the worms have been killed.

If after deworming, your kitten’s stools are mushy, have mucus or blood in them, be sure to see your vet. There are other kinds of intestinal parasites, such as coccidia, that can infect kittens. These require different treatments depending on the parasites.

Food

Kittens usually start eating solid food at around 4 weeks of age but still suckle on their mother. Ready made cat foods that can be bought in the supermarket usually contain a balanced diet for your cat or kitten. There are many brands to choose from and many manufacturers make specific kitten food. Cat food can be bought in cans, rolls, packets etc. Choosing premium brands is not always necessary but you can be assured of total cat nutrition if you stick to the big name brands. Check the packaging for wording such as ‘Total nutritional requirements for cats and kittens’.

Supplement your kitten’s diet with chopped or minced fresh meat, fish or chicken but remember fresh meat or fish alone does not supply your kitten with all the nutrients it needs.

Give you kitten a variety of foods changing what you give him regularly. Kittens can become very bored with same food day in day out and they may refuse to eat. It also helps guard against raising a fussy eater!

this is an answer on how to introduce your kitten to the other cats in your house. for the first 2 weeks only let your cats interact with the new kitten when you are home and can watch them. this will stop unessisary aggressivness. when your not home put your cat in the bathroom along with a litterbox a cat bed , food and water and 5 different toys. (nothing that dangles) when your sleeping put your kitten in the bathroom as well with all of those thing. after 2 weeks your cats should be used to the new kitten soyou can let it out when your not around or sleeping. if the cats are still not friendly to it then put your kitten back in the bathroom when your not there or sleeping for another week. if tht doesn’t work seek a vet there might something wrong
hope this helps!!!!

It’s nice your getting a kitten but do you have other cats do you know how to take care of one a cats a big task. It costs alot to keep a cat a year also you better take the kitten because the kitten might have a genetic desiese that you can’t see. Also it’s good you get to take care of a kitten.
