The hairless cat is thought to be a natural mutation, which has since been breed for the healthiest gene pool. Hairless cats need bathing and a special moisturizer. Sphynx is not always totally hairless; sometimes it will have a little “peach fuzz.” Cheops have hair that is very short, an eighth of an inch, sometimes longer on the hips and chest. Some varieties of hairless cats grow a little hair during cold seasons. Some LaPerm cats are born hairless. Devon Rex is prone to baldness. Hairless cats have been born of other breeds as well. Many breeds carry this recessive gene.
