Calico cats are know as tricolors. They are Red, White and Black or they can be dilute which would be Gray, cream and peach.

Sorry but there are no male calicos. Only females can have three colours. It has to do with chromosones. If there is a male calico he would usually be infertile.

“Calico” does not refer to a breed of cat, rather, it refers to the color combination/pattern you asked about. This color combination will consist of red/orange and black on white. A “Muted Calico” will have a cream and blue color combination instead of the orange and black.

In most cases, a calico cat will be female, as this color combination is dependent on the presence of two X chromosomes. Male cats with the calico coloring are very rare, as most males only have one X chromosome. When the presence of an additional X occurs, the cat will generally be sterile.

calicos are usually mostly white with black and orange/tan patches. Tortishells are usually mostly black and orange/tan with a small bit of white.
