Tri color means both Calico and Tortoishell. The word calico only exists here in noth ameria. Everywhere else a calico cat woudl be called a Tortoiseshell with white.

The term “tortoiseshell” is typically reserved for cats with brindled coats that have relatively little or no white markings. Those that are largely white with red and black patches are described as tortoiseshell-and-white (in the UK) or “calico” (in the United States).
Tortoiseshells and calicos are not specific breeds of cat. The tortoiseshell markings appear in many different breeds. Both calico and tortoiseshell cats are almost always female.

a calico is a cat with alot of colors. and they r always femail. if they arent (which happens now and then) then it has something to do with the genatic stuff. maybe its domestic short hair / calico (example)

i have a calico cat! most of them are blackish/gray, red, and white but mine is brown, red, black and white! when i was little, my grandpa told me that calico cats were all colors and i thought he meant like pink and blue and purple and i wanted one!
