About Me: I am a dog person who was reluctantly turned on to cats when it became apparent that apartment living was not going to be conducive to having a dog. I couldn\'t be more of a cat lover now, though! They are pretty great! My husband and I have two lovable little furballs, Princess Vespa and Barack Obama, and are expecting our first HUMAN baby this July!
Personal Interests: Travel, SCUBA Diving, Roller Derby, Teaching, Cooking, Running, Animals of all types, Karaoke, Music of almost all varieties, Dance, Landscaping, DIY home improvement projects, Katamari...
- Princess Vespa - Domestic Long Hair
- Barack Obama - Domestic Short Hair
Why does anything look the way it does? Genetics! Selective breeding is what gets cats (or dogs, etc.) to that specific look associated with a breed.

I would speak with your vet. That\\\'s a pretty severe amount of fur to have licked off. Your cat may need medication.
He\\\'s grooming you. When cats groom one another, it\\\'s their way of showing familial affection.
Long fur can definitely be deceiving! If we\\\'re between vet visits, I\\\'ll get on the scale, then get on the scale holding a cat. That gives us a quick idea of what their weight is. Also, a lot of big box pet stores have vets in house, and you can usually just plop your cat on their scale while walking through. Since he\\\'s not even a year yet, there is still a lot of growing he has to do. The bag can be good guideline to follow, but there\\\'s a difference between a cat who is just plain big and one who is fat and needs to be reigned in. I would discuss his specific body type and weight with your vet at the next visit. They can give you an idea of what his target weight should be. As far as his feedings go, I would split them up. We do an am & pm feeding with our cats. If you spread his food out like that, he may not be as hungry, and thus may stop begging (or at least as much! If he\\\'s anything like my cat, you\\\'d think we were evil owners who starved him for weeks at a time the way he cries! And he does it with food still in his bowl! Ha!).
