Baking soda if you feel you have to add something. Remember that anytime a fragrance is added to a product then the product becomes toxic to both animals and humans. Try World's Best Cat Litter or Aristocat's Scoopable Pine Litter. They control the odor well and are environmentally friendly. Whatever you use scoop it frequently ( twice daily if you can ) so the odor doesn't build. Reuse those pesky plastic grocery bags - they are free and you can throw them in the outside bin everytime you use one.
I am ashamed to admit that I only recently considered the health effects and environmental impact of our cat litter ( even though I had already suspected that scented litter probably wasn't good for any of us )... Swheatscoop and The World's Best Cat Litter are both good choices. We started using World's Best when our newest kitten decided to "taste" the litter repeatedly. I found it difficult to separate the solid wastes from the pine pellets and the newspaper pellets didn't combat the amonia odor. I am currently using The Aristocats Scoopable Pine litter ( it was on sale and with 6 cats I always need a price break ) and I like it. The texture is similar to sawdust ( without the dust ) and it controls the odor without perfumes. Scoops easily, too. The cats looked at it strange the first time but approved . When you are ready to clean the pan you can dump the used (but scooped ) litter in the non-garden compost pile.Aristocats does have some kind of "clumping agent" which may be a concern , but the label claims that the product is non-toxic.
We currently have 6 - the most we have ever had at one time. 3 others have gone on to the Summerland ( after living to ripe old ages , I am proud to say ). Which means that I have been "suckered in" 9 times ! My husband isn't particularly thrilled - we spend more on vet bills than we spend on our own medical care - and where we live the "legal limit " is only three ... However , he is the one who decided to keep the most recent kitty ! I would not willing give up any one of them - they are a source of joy and a built-in source of entertainment. ( But I do wish that map to my house would stop circulating ...)

Install a cat door. If he does bring in a live mouse and you can't catch the mouse then let the cat deal with it. If he does bring in something - alive or dead - try to control your reaction! Don't freak out or scold him - he is just trying to "share " or show you his hunting skills and deserves praise rather than recrimination. If you need to control when he enters or leaves the house or just can't deal with his "gifts" , then change the door ( maybe one with screen just in the top section ?). It's usually easier to change our own behavior ( or modify the house ) than to change a cat ! You have to retain a sense of humor when living with a cat ...
