Generally, toughened outdoor cats are OK in the rain. Even if they have thick fur, they may be able to get sick. Be sure you have a sheltered porch or something where they cold go if they wanted to get dry. Also, let them in if they want to come inside.
They dig their sharp claws into the bark, and pull themselves up. They don't like going down, because they either jump or have a scary climb ahead of them!
