I just ask the same question. I wonder too. lol..
I think it all depends what kind of litter you use for your cat. If you have an inside cat and he uses the litter box daily, no matter what between the poo and the pee, you are going to have a stinky litter box. Lets face it cat poo and pee sticks and if is inside a house, even more. If you have an outside cat, then you don't have to worry about it. In my case that's why I use the Breeze system from Tidy Cats, and honestly it works great and my Kitty loves it. It separetes the poo from the pee and it doesn't stick! But another thing is that I personaly don't like to have the litter box dirty and everytime my kitty use the litter box i clean it, that's just me. But anyways, I guess it all depends what brand/kind of litter you use for your cat's litter box.
