About Me: I retired as a PI when we got involved in feral cat rescue and to home school our daughter who just turned 18 this year. I've rescued cats for 38+ years and they were all strays. My husband, daughter and I have been involved in feral cat rescue for 7 years now working with local shelters and feral cat agencies. We have 30 inside cats with 7 foster cats at the moment. Twenty of the cats are feral. We trapped them at a local trash transfer facility - eventually getting the whole colony. We were told most of them were not adoptable because they were too old. The options were to either euthanize them, set them free or keep them. We kept them all. There is only one that we've been unable to tame but she plays with her family and seems quite content to have a fully belly. They are wonderful, loving cats and bring so much joy to us every day! We keep a record of the animals we have rescued, fostered, adopted out or taken to the shelter to be adopted and our current total is now 464. We have rescued animals from squirrels, raccoons, dogs, horses and birds. We have taken in rats that were no longer wanted by their owners, mice, degus, jirds, rabbits, and hamsters. The injured wildlife are stabilized and then taken to a rehabber. The animals that are adoptable are placed in trustworthy homes and what is not adoptable stays with us. It's a way of life for us and one that we would never change.
Personal Interests: Riding our 3 horses, playing with our 4 dogs, and brushing our cats!
Zeuku is a little miracle cat. He was thrown away into the trash after being mauled by another animal. The mauling nearly severed his head. He was treated at a local animal ER but not given much hope of ever walking again. The nerves in his neck were damaged and he couldn't hold his head up by himself so the foster mom made a support collar out of tape to keep his head erect. My daughter and I were going daily to work with him and he took his first steps toward my daughter. The shelter asked us to adopt him. Little Zeuku (his name means life) now weighs 15 pounds and races around the house.

Contrary to common belief, fleas do survive during the winters, especially indoors. To ensure proper flea and tick control and minimize risk of infestation, continuous year-round treatment is recommended even in winter months. Due to nationwide record-breaking precipitation during the winter, mosquitoes, fleas and ticks are anticipated earlier and in much larger volumes this year. The parasites are expected to be the highest in very damp areas that are beginning to experience warmer weather. Areas that have very wet winter are likely to experience a heavy flea and tick season once the weather warms this spring.

It doesn't really matter. Just make sure to have them fixed by 5 or 6 months at the latest if you get male and female. We have brothers and sisters, brother and brother, father and son, sister and sister, mother and son, mother and daughter and unrelated cats of the same age. They all are very close and I don't see a difference in what would be a better combination.

You can't force cats to like each other. You can only help them co-exist and hope they become buddies. Give them space. Make sure you have at least 2 litter pans. We have wonderful results with cooked boneless chicken. Every night we have treat time and they all gather around for their treat. It has helped with cats that weren't quite crazy about each other. We also use a fishing pole toy and get them interested in watching the toy fly around the room allowing it to drop in front of each cat so they get a chance to grab it. Time and patience!
