Cat Urine Removers
Cats may act perfect, but after you’ve lived with one for long enough you’ll begin to suspect that they aren’t. Some cats just don’t realize that the litter box is a necessity, not a suggestion. Male cats, especially, can have spraying problems. All of which has given rise to a rapidly expanding selection of cat urine removers. After all, cat urine is unpleasant and unhealthy to live with. But of course, no one wants to throw away a perfectly good rug or armchair just to get rid of the smell. So what are some good cat urine removers? Honestly, the best recommendation for a cat urine remover that you can get is word-of-mouth, so if a friend is raving about one, go for it. Also, ask your vet for advice. As I already said, the cat urine removal market is growing all the time so there could be some brands out there I’ve never tried. Still, here are a few recommendations to help you breathe easier.
Thornell’s Cat-Off : Unlike many cat urine removers, this one contains no living bacteria or enzymes. Instead, Cat-Off uses an advanced chemical formula to bond and absorb urine molecules.
Bramton’s Oxy Solution : This cat urine remover boasts the inclusion of “hungry bacteria” in the solution. Sounds alarming, but the bacteria have actually been engineered to feed on cat urine, eliminating the cause of odor. Oxy Solution is safe for any fabrics or carpets that can’t be ruined by water.
MisterMax’s Anti-Icky Poo : Ok, so it’s a silly name. Like Oxy Solution, Icky Poo features “genetically modified” bacteria that seek out odor causing bacteria. While this formula was designed for urine, it also works decently on other smelly stains like vomit.
Super Cat Urine Cleaner System : This “system” looks to be targeted towards serious cat urine damage. In addition to a solution, a powder and a brush, the Super Cat Urine Cleaner System also offers a free downloadable instruction manual and tip sheet. The company offers different product sets for different surfaces, and the more deluxe product sets come with a black-light to check for bacteria.
Of course, many cat owners swear by their own DIY cat urine removal tricks. We’ve heard everything from baking soda to white vinegar to Listerine to an industrial wet-vac. If trying to clean the cat urine yourself, don’t use scrubbing motions, since this will only help the odor causing bacteria penetrate more deeply into fabric. Instead, blot the stain firmly. If this is a constant problem, talk to your vet about house-training your cat and if it is a new problem, take your cat for a checkup to make sure it isn’t a symptom that requires medical attention.

It isn’t just anyone who could get away with peeing on our rugs. It’s a good thing we love our cats so much, or they likely wouldn’t get away with it either. It’s frustrating when they do it though, as it’s an unpleasant thing to clean up. No one wants to don the rubber gloves, [...]
My Aunt Marge has always been an animal lover, with a special affinity for cats. Since she and my uncle never had any children, their pets served as satisfactory substitutes. After my uncle died, Aunt Marge’s Siamese, Streaker, was a wonderful companion for her. Unfortunately, the old cat died just a year after my uncle, [...]
It would be way too simple to bang out instructions for making cat furniture and call it a day. That would make for an informational but rather boring article. I’d much rather tell you a story about how my husband created a masterpiece of cat furniture for less than $40.
The story begins with [...]
