How to Find Names for Kittens
Getting a new kitten is a thrilling time for any pet lover. The truth is, now you have a new (adorable!) little personality to get to know. Some kittens are frisky and some are cautious; some eat everything and others are picky. But how do you know how to find names for kittens? Picking a name for a new kitten should be a fun activity for friends and family. I would recommend observing your new kitten for a few days before settling on a name, that way you’ll be sure to get the right name for your kitten. Try out a few different names and see how the new kitten responds. Also, pay attention to how you feel when you call the new name out. It might sound silly, but I think if the name makes you happy, the cat will be able to tell. Of course, an important thing to remember is that any name that makes you smile will ultimately be the right name so this really isn’t a high pressure situation. That said, with most new kittens at least, you will stumble on a particular name that feels like a perfect “fit.”
So how to find names for kittens? While I certainly can’t name your little kitten for you, here are some different sources of inspiration that I have found helpful for finding names for kittens. Remember, some of the best new kitten names are unique and have a special meaning to you, the owner. Of course, the classics work great too. Once again, it’s all up to you. Happy naming and congratulations on the new kitten!
How does the new kitten look? Many people base their new kitten’s name on its appearance. For example, is it an orange tabby? Then a name like Pumpkin might be almost irresistible. Or is it a black and white cat? I knew a cat named Tux who looked like he was wearing a perfect little evening suit.
Find inspiration in a favorite book or movie. Or song or TV show or play. This is a great way to find a unique kitten name that means a lot to you too. I knew one family that had a black cat and a white cat named Vader and Luke, respectively. I’ve also known an enormous, majestic Persian named Mr. Darcy. These kitten names are great because they’re descriptive and personal.
How did you get your new kitten? Especially if you have an interesting adoption or rescue story, these can make some great new kitten names too. I had a kitten named Splinter that we got out of my grandparent’s woodpile, and that name still makes me smile.
Happy naming!

Fifteen years ago, on the day I picked up my first cat at the local shelter, the volunteer on duty handed me a paper grocery bag full of pet supplies.
“Here are some free samples,” she said, tossing the sack into the back of my car. “There’s some good stuff in there.”

While most people think of animal groomers as working primarily on dogs, there are a number of reasons you may want to consider for grooming thick or long haired cats. Cats are, to a great extent, self groomers. They lick themselves clean, in the process removing dead hair. However, there are a few reasons [...]

When organizations dealing with urban feral cat colonies engage in Trap-Neuter-Release (TNR) programs, they still must deal with already existing kittens, as well as those who are born more quickly than a TNR program can keep up with. That’s why rescue [...]

I named my cat Gypsy. I was headed to a Halloween party the evening I met her and was dressed up as a Gypsy. Plus my cat was black with light patches of orange. We decided that she was mysterious looking and gypsy\’s are mysterious. I love the name
